Portrait or Personal Image - Natural/Abstract Photography

“With Natural/Abstracts, I portray the often overlooked beauty found in an otherwise harsh, uninviting landscape. My challenge is to take the time to find the untapped charm in the abandoned homestead, the prairie blossom, the desolate graveyard, and the dying wildflower. I search the environment of the High Lonesome for the innate elegance of the humble scenes hiding in plain sight.” ~April

With an education in art history and a life-long exposure to artistry and creativity, April Dalphne is the visionary force behind Natural/Abstract Photography. An award-winning wildflower photographer, she developed her artistic style on the isolated prairies of West Texas as an escape from the halls of graduate school. Today she explores these same plains always in search of those fleeting moments when light and Mother Nature combine to create sheer magic and inspire the soul.

Among favored subjects are the wildflower in bloom or not, the abandoned homestead, and the desolate graveyard. With a historian’s curiosity of the bygone life and an artist’s sensitivity, April records these forlorn scenes, capturing their stories and characteristics through carefully composed images to include the romanticism and memory of the life once lived.

April holds degrees from Texas Tech University and the University of North Texas. She is the author of “Fair Lady of the Plains,” a collection of wildflower photographs and poetry dedicated to her grandmothers and mother. Currently curating the only open juried photography exhibition on the Southern Plains, PhotoPlains! The Annual West Texas Photographic Society of Lubbock Open Juried Photography Exhibition, April is the artistic director of the WTPSL. Along with her family, she makes Lubbock, Texas her home.

"Sometimes it is the people [wildflower] who no one imagines anything of who do the things that no one can imagine." ~Joan Clarke

The creative force of Natural/Abstract Photography, Thelma is an award winning fine art photographer specializing in West Texas landscape and black and white photography. She is widely recognized for her ability to capture the emotional essence of place and time within her images.

With an fine art background, her interest in photography grew with the discovery of the Lensbaby soft focus lens, where her greatest goal was always to create images that express a sense of whimsy- a sparkle of the inner self, seen through the window of a two dimensional image. But her love of the world and of nature lured her outside into the exciting and rewarding world of the West Texas flat horizon landscape, where her goal remains virtually the same, to capture the essence and emotion of each place.
